(fanfic in Harry’s POV)
In my dictionary empathy is direct, for example
“i heard this about you I’m so sorry you had to go through that”
“I’m sorry things are this way”
“did you actually go through everything that i heard, I’m sorry about that, are you okay?”
“you’re so cool to have faced it and come out of it”
But wizard twist the empathy and say something weird or awkward that i did and say someone else also does that so that i feel okay about doing it? I do not know in which universe that is empathy. If speaking about it is so necessary for them, then why isn’t the empathy direct?
Honestly, if you ask me I would like to quote Taylor Swift,
“
I ain’t trying to mess with your self-expression
But I’ve learned the lesson that stressin’
And obsessin’ ’bout somebody else is no fun
And snakes and stones never broke my bones so
So, oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh
You need to calm down
“
I wish I could start singing this every time I hear the fucked up empathy that I get, because wizards don’t understand how fucked up that kinda empathy is unless someone does it to them.
Highlighting the flaws and saying they also do it or someone else does it and magically I’m supposed to feel better about it? No, wizarding world, I DO NOT FEEL BETTER ABOUT IT (caps because I want the message to be loud and clear). You will understand why I do not feel better about it if someone else does it to you, cause this kinda empathy sucks big time.
You wanna empathize? walk up to me and be direct, cause I’m friendly AF unless you eat my sandwich, then I’m Ross. If you cannot be direct, could you please shut the fuck up, drink water, stay hydrated and mind your own business like how I do always.
If this doesn’t explain it and get the message across I dunno what will.
I have grown way beyond the special way. I am mature and understanding enough to be spoken to directly if you really wanna talk about it so bad.
