After 30 years(continued)
There is AR Rahman music playing in the background. There is a black umbrella in the corner of his room.
Harry is sitting on his bed lost in his world. He is thinking about a moment in time many years ago when he was living for the hope of it all, he was sitting in her car in the middle of night outside his apartment and his heart was beating wildly. Harry’s heart starts beating wildly.
There is a noise in the kitchen and Harry breaks out of his day dream.
For some reason he keeps reliving that memory.
Harry gets up from the bed. His back starts aching badly. He has constant ache in his legs as well and he doesn’t have the same stamina anymore. He thinks about his parents applying the ayurvedic oil on their legs and smiles.
He walks to his shelf where he has kept it safe. He picks it up. There is a certain kind of heaviness in his heart. There hasn’t been a day he hasn’t thought about his parents. He thinks about them sitting in the balcony drinking chai. He thinks about Aaru walking around in the house when she was 2 and his parents playing with her. He thinks about his mom cooking in the kitchen and asking him if he is hungry. He thinks about his dad watering the plants in the balcony and lighting the lamp for God. He thinks about dad teaching Aaru to pray.
There are tears flowing down his cheek. The heaviness in his heart never seems to leave him. He puts down the oil. Today is Onam and he is alone and not alone at the same time. He thinks to himself, it’s funny how that works. He wishes he had more time. Time with his loved ones is all he wants. But time doesn’t wait for anyone.
There is a noise in the kitchen again. Harry smells his mom’s chicken curry from his room. He wipes his tears and smiles.
He calls out, “where did you find that recipe?”
THE END.
Author’s note: If you are wondering who Harry saw outside the window and who is in his kitchen turn to next page.
Next page: blank.
Harry is sitting in the beach house with a book in his hand called “After 30 years…..”. He has been reading the entire time. He is so annoyed that the Author left the book in a cliffhanger. He closes the book and keeps it aside. It’s bright and sunny outside. He hears his parents playing with Aaru in the hall and cocomelon playing on TV.
He thinks to himself time never waits for anyone and walks outside his room and sits with Aaru and his parents.
Because the present is all he has.
