Note.

I was using my Goodreads “want to read” shelf as my physical TBR.

I would add books and buy them.

If I returned books for certain reasons, like because it’s damaged or pirated or something, I would remove it from that shelf.

I was also removing books from that shelf when I didn’t find the book in the bookstore.

I was using it as a “physical TBR” shelf.

This is what I was doing.

..

But the world was on my neck watching my every move.

Whenever I removed a book from my shelf.

They would glorify it and it will be all over the internet and the author is suddenly their favourite.

This was madness.

Because there are various reasons one would return a book.

I was returning because it was damaged and pirated.

Also,

I removed a lot of books from my shelf at one point because I was overwhelmed with anxiety.

And again the world glorified those books.

..

My “DNF” shelf in Goodreads was a “Soft DNF” shelf.

I added books to that shelf so that I can come back to it later.

But again the world glorified it.

..

The world also invaded my personal space, boundaries and privacy without my consent to glorify books.

Which was madness and cruel.

..

Honestly this isn’t fun anymore.

I don’t want to play this game.

Do whatever.

Because I’ve removed everything from my Goodreads.

I just have the “read” shelf.

Once I have some privacy and once my books are changed back to their original content,

I will start reading again.

And I most certainly won’t be involving the world in my reading updates.

..

Also, everyone is allowed to have their personal opinions on books that they read.

But apparently I’m not.

..

It’s scrutinizing and inhuman and downright ridiculous and madness, whatever the reading community has been doing to me.

I don’t want to play this game anymore.

I’m sorry.

God bless you.
