I think people are mistaking connection with finding similarities.

No, when I say connection it isn’t really that.

It just means you both are interested and invested in the relationship/friendship.

You have a good rapport.

You just need to know how to hold the conversation and be genuinely interested in the other person.

Be curious about them.

Remember when they say something and build on that.

Build that relationship.

Be a safe space for them.

Make them comfortable and do not judge.

And so on.
